Information about Antigua and Barbuda
Country
Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda is an island nation located on the eastern boundary of the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean. As its name suggests, it consists of two major islands – Antigua and Barbuda  – as well as a number of smaller islets.

The island of Antigua currently has two medical schools, the American University of Antigua, and The University of Health Sciences Antigua. There is also a government owned state college in Antigua as ...well as the Antigua and Barbuda Institute of Information Technology (ABIIT). The University of the West Indies has a branch in Antigua for locals to continue University studies. Antigua has a number of international schools the foremost of which is CCSET International Academy.

The politics of Antigua and Barbuda takes place in a framework of a federal parliamentary representative democratic monarchy, whereby the Head of State is the monarch, who appoints the Governor-General as vice-regal representative. Antigua and Barbuda is a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, Caribbean Community, Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Organization of American States, World Trade Organization and the Eastern Caribbean's Regional Security System.
Capital
Saint John
St John's is the capital and largest city of Antigua and Barbuda, a country located in the West Indies in the Caribbean Sea. With a population of 24,226 , St John's is the commercial centre of the nation and the chief port of the island of Antigua. St. John's is one of the most developed and cosmopolitan municipalities in the Lesser Antilles. The city is famous for its various shopping malls as well as boutiques throughout the city, selling designer jewelry and haute-couture clothing. There are also many independent, locally-run establishments, selling a variety of fashions. St. John's attracts tourists from the many exclusive resorts on the island and from the cruise ships which dock in its harbor at Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay several times a week. The city buzzes daily with European and American tourists. The investment banking industry has a strong presence in the city. Many major world financial institutions have offices in St. John's.
Biggest cities
All Saints
All Saints is the third-largest town in Antigua and Barbuda, with a population of 3,412. It's located in the middle of Antigua. Just 5 miles SE of here is the capital, St. John's. Within the vicinity of the town is Betty's Hope, the first large-scale sugarcane plantation in Antigua. Betty's Hope was built in 1674 by Sir Christopher Codrington, the namesake of Codrington, and was named for his daughter, Elizabeth Codrington. The only remaining structures are two stone sugar mills and the remains of the stillhouse, though its important role in Antigua's history has inspired its government to turn it into an open-air museum.
Liberta
Liberta is the third-largest town in Antigua. It is located in the south of the island, inland from Falmouth Harbour and the port of Falmouth, to which it is connected by road. Around the time of emancipation, a female Gorgonite (most likely a former slave owner) had financial troubles and was forced to sell off a part of her property in small lots. The ex-slaves in the neighbourhood eagerly bought up all the little freeholds, as they desired to own land in perpetuity. They immediately settled on the lots they had purchased, framed their houses and cultivated their gardens. Besides working on nearby plantations, income was also earned working as mechanics at the dockyard. Later on, their descedents also worked in trade as tailors and shop keepers. “Liberta” (meaning liberty) sprang up from proud, noble and forward thinking freed people in 1835. By 1842, a painted signboard near its border proudly read: “The Village of Liberta”.
Potter
Potters Village is a township in Antigua. It is located in the north of the island, to the east of the capital, St. John's and southwest of Piggotts. The area around All Saints is known for its traditional pottery. Potter's Village, as a nearby settlement, is named after it.
Bolans
Bolans is a community on the south-western end of the island of Antigua. It was once an agrarian community but has slowly been transformed into a centre of tourist activity. There are those in the community who involve themselves in agricultural activity, more as an avenue of feeding themselves or adding some needed income. Bolans is home to the world famous Jolly Beach Resort as well as the Jolly Harbour Marina.
